Detailed parameters:

Fluid Migration (Gas or Liquid) through hydrating cement slurry is a major reason for well completion failure. The result is a need for expensive remedial well treatments. Shenyang Taige Oil Equipment CO., LTD developed the TG-7150 Cement Fluid Migration Analyzer to fulfill the need of the oil industry to realistically simulate parameters such as temperature, hydrostatic head pressure, fluid formation pressure, and pressure gradients driving fluid flow through a cement column.

The Fluid (Gas) Migration Analyzer (FMA) was developed to fulfill a need of the oil industry for a bench-top laboratory device to realistically test cement recipes for use in controlling formation flow (gas or brine) invasion after the cement job. The apparatus needed to realistically simulate parameters such as temperature, hydrostatic head, fluid formation pressures, and pressure gradients driving the flow through a cement column.

The FMA test cell itself is similar to an API HTHP fluid loss cell. A hollow hydraulic piston at the top of the cell is pressurized to simulate the effect of the hydrostatic pressure on the cement. Filtrate from the cement slurry can be collected from the bottom and the top of the cell through mesh screens. The formation pore pressure and fluid inflow is simulated at the bottom of the cell. Fluid migration through the cement is monitored using pressure transducers and flow meters. Differential pressure across the cement, motivating the flow migration, is also simulated. All pressures, filtrate volumes, temperatures, gas flow rate and other variables are automatically measured and computer-logged and displayed on a continuous basis.

Shenyang Taige TG-7150 is designed to be as easy to use as possible, with an intuitively designed operation panel and many innovative features to enhance system ergonomics. Among the new innovations of the Shenyang Taige TG-7150 is the ability to run the test cell at any angle to simulate well bore deviation; from vertical to horizontal.

Shenyang Taige TG-7150 is also capable of performing fluid loss measurement through either standard screens or the actual rock core samples. Multiple data channels, including both absolute and differential pressure, gas and liquid flows, simulated temperature are built into the system to allow Data Acquisition and Analysis via a PC with Shenyang Taige TG-7150 Data Acquisition and Control software. Data collected during a test can be displayed in real time.

OPERATIONS

The TG-7150 can be used in the laboratory to realistically test cement recipes for use in controlling formation flow invasion after the cement job. The impact of Static Gel Strength development on hydrostatic pressure is simulated by decreasing the cement slurry pressure as the test progresses.

The TG-7150 consists of Test Cell; Manual Pressure and Flow Control; Laboratory Balance, Automatic Temperature (heating/cooling) Control and a PC based Data Acquisition Analysis and Control System. Please refer to the diagram below for more details.

Gas/water migration through the cement is monitored using pressure transducers and flow meters. Differential pressure across the cement, motivating the flow migration is also recorded. All pressure filtrate volumes, temperature and other variables are automatically measured and displayed on a PC in real time. The test cell itself is a modified API high temperature high pressure (HTHP) fluid loss cell. A hollow hydraulic piston at the top of the cell is pressurized to simulate the effect of the hydrostatic pressure on the cement. A standard screen (or rock core) is installed into the bottom of the cell for fluid loss measurement. Filtrate from the cement slurry is collected from the bottom of the cell. Formation pore pressure is also applied from the bottom of the test cell with ability to inject either gas or liquid. Appropriate back pressure is applied during the defined test procedure by operating the control valves. Minimum test time needs to be enough to cover cement gelation time since migration is most likely to occur during the gel strength development phase.
